The GMC Portfolio Pathway is for doctors who have not completed a GMC-approved training programme but can show the knowledge, skills and experience of an eligible UK specialist or GP.
It leads to specialist registration or GP registration. It is not CCT.
You apply in GMC Online. The GMC Specialty Specific Guidance (SSG) for that specialty says what evidence is expected. Redact patient, supervision, complaint and incident documents first.
Elaryvo holds a working copy and maps it to the SSG. It is not the GMC portal.
Read the SSG in full before you gather evidence. The GMC will not redact files for you.
Practice Ready Assessment (PRA) is a workplace-based assessment of readiness to practise for internationally trained physicians who have already trained and practised independently outside Canada.
The Medical Council of Canada oversees the National Assessment Collaboration (NAC) PRA framework. Nine provincial programmes run the assessments. The provincial medical regulatory authority still grants the licence.
PRA is not a licence. It is not MCCQE on its own. It is not the Royal College Practice Eligibility Route (PER). PER is a route to Royal College specialist certification. Certification is not a licence.
MCC / physiciansapply is the national credentials layer. You still pick a province.
One evidence record. Four Canadian processes. Do not merge them.
The Medical Board of Australia grants registration, through Ahpra. The Australian Medical Council assesses the Standard pathway. Specialist medical colleges assess Specialist Recognition. Do not treat these as one form.
Specialist Recognition: college comparability, then Board specialist registration.
Expedited Specialist pathway: only if your qualification is on the Board’s current accepted list. Not college comparability.
Area of Need: tied to an identified post. Not the same as Specialist Recognition.
AMC Standard Pathway: AMC MCQ and clinical exam or workplace-based assessment, toward general registration.
Competent Authority Pathway: only if you are on the Board’s current list. GMC registration is not automatic eligibility.
Short-term training: usually time-limited. It does not, by itself, lead to specialist registration.
Workplace-based assessment on the Standard Pathway is an option inside that pathway, not a second Elaryvo route.
Keeps one career record. You map the same work to the UK, Canadian or Australian pathway that applies.
Does not apply to the GMC, MCC, a provincial PRA programme, the Royal College, AMC or Ahpra.
Does not predict comparability, PRA success or registration. Official pages remain authoritative. Recheck them before you apply.
