Professional practice
Related. Not identical. Participation is not leadership.
Research generates or tests knowledge. Audit compares practice with a standard and completes the cycle. QI systematically improves processes and outcomes.
Do not use research, audit and quality improvement interchangeably.
Do not imply you led work you attended.
| Activity | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Research | Generate or test knowledge systematically. |
| Audit | Compare practice with an agreed standard, change, re-measure. |
| Quality improvement | Improve a process or outcome, often iteratively. |
Participated: you were meaningfully involved.
Contributed: you took responsibility for a defined component.
Led: you coordinated or directed the work.
Championed / sustained: you helped sustain, spread or embed improvement beyond the initial activity.
Champion is not a flattering label. The record must say what you actually did.
Attending an audit meeting does not mean you led an audit.
