verify
Is this genuine? That is a different question from how well you performed.
Verification confirms that an item of evidence, document, role or professional activity is genuine or attributable to the stated source.
Example: a hospital confirms you worked there between two dates. Or a supervisor confirms they completed an assessment.
Verification answers: is this evidence genuine? Assessment answers: how well was the work performed?
| Verification | Assessment | |
|---|---|---|
| Main question | Is it genuine? | How well was the work performed? |
| Example | Confirm an employment letter | Clinical Observation |
| Person | Verifier | Assessor |
| Professional judgement | Usually limited | Usually central |
A professional reference is an opinion or account of work, role, performance or professionalism. Verification confirms specific facts or evidence. Do not treat them as the same.
A confirmed letter of employment does not, by itself, mean someone judged you competent.
For records held in Elaryvo, Evidence Verification is the verification route. A named professional attests through a secure link. That replaces traditional informal verification — emails, scanned letters and untracked attestations.
Use Elaryvo verification unless the receiving college, regulator or employer states that it requires its own process (for example a regulator’s primary-source check). If they say they still need their own route, follow that agency.
